Marianne's return to painting after her husband's death came slowly. After creating a three-painting homage to him and his life, she turned her attention to her deeper feelings and ideas. The result is the work below — what she playfully calls her Blue period. The transition to a life alone has been sweet and sad, and though she misses his conversations greatly, she finds herself relishing my newfound solitary freedoms — giving and receiving help fluidly, without obligation. She sees more and more personal emotion evident in these paintings that have come forth in the first moments of a new life.
